The Society for the Study of Women Writers, with whom EDIS has long been aligned, will hold its Triennial Conference November 4-8, 2015 in Philadelphia. EDIS members are invited to participate in one of two EDIS-sponsored programs relating to the conference theme, “Liminal Spaces, Hybrid Lives.” Papers might address such topics as Dickinson’s circumferential poetics, dramatic voices, biography, gender/ sexuality, or connections with another woman writer.
On Friday, August 7, 2015, the Emily Dickinson International Society will sponsor a critical institute in conjunction with its Annual Meeting. The Institute provides an opportunity for participants to workshop critical essays and conference papers with established Dickinson scholars. The topic for this year’s meeting is “Dickinson in her Elements." Applicants working on Dickinson’s writings in relation to the physical sciences (botany, geology, astronomy, etc.), agriculture, natural and built environments, etc. are encouraged to apply, but all submissions will be considered. We welcome applications from graduate students, adjunct faculty, independent scholars, and tenure-track professors. Please submit an abstract (300-350 words) describing your paper topic along with a CV to Eliza Richards (ecr@email.unc.edu) and Alexandra Socarides (socaridesa@missouri.edu) by January 15, 2015. Applicants will be notified by email in February; selected participants will be asked to circulate conference-length (8-10 page) papers to their workshop group by June 15th.
The Emily Dickinson International Society will hold its 2014 annual meeting program in Amherst, Massachusetts, from August 8 to August 10. This year’s theme is “Emily Dickinson and New England Writers.” The program, cosponsored by the Emily Dickinson Museum, will include presentations and activities related to the topic for all participants as well as an institute format for participants who have submitted papers on the theme for discussion in critical workshops. A preliminary schedule follows, and members are advised to check the EDIS website for the most up-to-date information as the weekend approaches. We hope to see many of you there!
